302 Head gaskets

302 Head gaskets
I had overheated my engine twice, and a few friends told me i had a blown head gasket after it had happened. I have both heads off and gaskets, i am trying to tell which side is blown. How do you know which side is blown by looking at the gaskets/heads?

Do you see anykind of corrosion on the gaskets that can tell you if coolant was flowing out of the gasket seal?
What was the truck running like before you pulled the heads?
Well, I guess at this point it really doesn't matter. Since you have your heads off just slap new gaskets on there & go with that.

When i overheated it i checked the upper and lower radiator hoses and the lower was blown. I replaced them both. i added new coolant it ran but i kept getting a red engine light so disconnected the battery for a while then the same thing. so thats when i asked my friends and they said a blown head gasket, it did have water in the oil, white smoke out the exhaust. It still ran though. either way what other problems could there be if not the head gaskets. What should i look for?
