I just aacquired a 79 Ford Econoline Van as a donor motor
and transmission for our 54 Ford Station Wagon.(passenger)
I'm not sure if I have a 351M or a 351W engine. How can I
tell??
If it is a 351M does it have the same motor mounts as a
small block and do all the transmissions, c4 c6 and aod work
with this engine? In other words, does this engine bolt in
where a 302 or 351W would go??
351m has different trans mounting (same as 460) and different motor mount bosses (3 bolts going into side of block) 351w has 2 bolts going straight up beside oil pan just like 302 and uses same mounts as 302.
another way to tell is a 351m has 8 bolts in each valve cover, and a 351w only has 6. The 351m will NOT fit inplace of a 302 or 351w without major changes
The 351M was never put in the econoline vans, afaik. The 400 was, but only from 1980-82.
In '79, it might have had a 351W (engine code H) or a 460 (engine code A).
