292 rebuild

Hello all,
I have 64 f250 4x4 with a 3 speed I use as my snow plow truck and I think I did the engine in this weekend, Any ways was wondering what the average cost to rebuild it might be or should I look for a newer engine to replace it. It started to make a screeching sound like metal grinding inside some where and started to loose power then eventually just died and cant get started again there was lots of smoke coming out of the oil filler tube and smelt burnt. any help would be appreciated thanks ahead of time.

If you rebuild it will cost way to much. If you buy a remanufactured it will cost you $1050 and yo ucan choose your head that you want at that price. Ed

did you run it out of oil?

No I checked the oil and it was right where it was supposed to be, after talking to a few guys I think maybe I broke Timing chain or spockets.

Thats the first time I ever heard of a y-block dying. Here in Lubbock it was gonna run my dad about 1500 to get his 59 292 redone but it turned out it was just the distributor making noise.
