Transmission problems

I'm still looking at a 96 7.3 F350 dually/cc with 129,000 mi on it. I was wondering if there is a way that the transmission (auto) can be plugged into a computer like the engine and see if there are any problems or potential problems.

I believe the PCM will only hold trouble codes for about 20 on-off cycles of the ign. key. I know it does not keep a history of past codes.

You could at least take a look at the fluid. Check the level on the dipstick, look at the color and smell it. If the ATF is brownish and smells burnt then it's been overheated and most likely is toast. Be careful of anyfluid that has recently been change, could be hiding something. This'll give ya some idea on it's condition...
