I have been looking for a few weeks for a 99-2000 PSD and have seen A LOT with just around 100,000 miles. I then expanded my search and it seems that a lot of folks get rid of their diesels right around 100k. Why is this? Is there anything special that I should be cking when looking at one of these trucks? Any info or links appreciated.
I know it must have been discussed before but I searched the archive and came up with nuthin'
Current truck - '99 F250SD x-cab 5.4L AOD, 285 BFGs, Westins, RH rear, ~70k miles
The PSD has a 100K mile warranty on its engine. Maybe they didn't want to buy extended coverage That's still low mileage for those babies. Heck the motor will probably outlive the truck if it's cared for.
At 100k I would check the coolant system with the Fleetguard test strips to make sure SCA has been added. The cooling system requires an SCA reading of 1.5-3.0 to prevent cavitation. If the cooling system has been taken care of I would look for the usual things as with any other vehicle and of course any kind of maintanance records are a big plus.
