This isn't really urgent, as I have no immidiate plans to swap the engine out of my truck, and it still has lots of life left. I'm just curious.
Anyway, its an 86 4X4 with the 302 EFI. I was thinking, when the time came, I'd put a motor in this truck. I might go up to a 351, or maybe even a 460, but probably a 351 because it should go right up to my 4 speed (3 speed + OD manual)
If I went this route, I'd like to keep the EFI, if possible. What's the best way to do this? New computer for an 87 (or whenever you could get an EFI 351?)
nickmobile67, just so you know those 4sp od trannyies that ford put in 1/2 tons are junk. Just warning you though cause you can't get replacements easily.
Yea, I know if I go to a 460 I'll have to change more stuff, like the tranny. It depends what I end up doing with the truck. If I continue to daily drive it I'd probably go with another 302 or a 351, but I did think about going to a 460 if I don't drive it as much.
The trans code on the door is either a 5 or an 8. Hard to read. What's wrong with them? I never had a problem with it, even towing, although I don't tow often.
I was thinking I'd need a different computer for the 351, but maybe not.
