I am not pretending that I bought a 5.4 SD AND I want good mileage - but I am curious. Lets say I drive very "gently" and one would assume I would get the best mileage doing so, but once in a while I need to really stand in it - does the computer remember that "agressive" moment and adjust the driving parameters for a longer time? In short, am I killing the overall mileage potential with the one or two time romp on the gas or will it just go back to gentle mode? (does any of that make sense?)
I remember the 1st few tanks of gas (I bought the truck new) I got almost 13 mpg. After about 2500 miles or more (now about 6000) I am around 10-11 mpg. Nothing about the truck has changed in that time. Part of it is winter here, where they oxygenate the fuel. This week I added a Diablo Delta chip, which I must say made a great difference in the drivability. It was during a "how much did this chip do" romp that I thought about the mpg question above. I hear the chip will add a couple mpg too, but at the moment I can't keep my foot out of the gas. It makes me smile when I light the tires on this big truck
The computer has preset perameters for all driving and it constantly adapts to driving conditions.
I think that mine gets worse mileage babying it than being a little aggresive. An occasonal romp will not effect much.
