HELP!!! DIABLO WONT WORK
So I put it all back together... truck wont run.. This time, while I'm cranking it over, I look to see if any of the idiot lights is flashing at me.... there not.... so I take the chip out... truck runs fine.
I do this same procedure 3 more times.. same result... truck wont start with diablo in... runs fine without...
I called the tech line... seems they dont work on weekends (When alot of us do our wrenching) so I turn to you... Loyal SD Owners....
WHAT, IF ANYTHING, AM I DOING WRONG OR HOW DO I MAKE THIS CHIP WORK?
( sorry if I sound frustrated, but that
10mm wire connector bolt isnt easy to get to)Please help fast.. my SD is in the driveway and, at this point, is Found On Road Dead !!!
thanks for the venting session

Hopefully you didn't scrape or sand to far!!
Try cleaning the end of the ecu real good with alcohol, try again.
Don't know what to do for since tech line is closed.
This happened to me the first time, I pulled it sanded a bit more and cleaned real good, popped it back in and it worked fine.
Good Luck!!!
If anybody has any ideas before monday, I'd be most grateful cuz monday I'm sending it back. I want to keep it but if I cant get it to work... maybe I'll try a superchip or a jet chip... anybody heard about any of those.
thanks

ok... i ran into the same problem.... lucky for me my dealer called me right then (he was interested in how i liked it.... at 8pm!).
so... he told me to pull the chip and start the truck as you have already done to make sure the truck was fine... then he had me do the following:
- take the key out of the ignition
- put the chip back in
- put the key in the ignition
- turn the key to the run position
- leave the key in the run position for 20 seconds.
- start the truck
this worked perfectly and he seemed to be right on the number... so i assume this is a common problem.
try that and let us know if it worked.
You've pretty much ruled out the connector being cleaned well enough.
Diablo's CPY2 code is really good code with no known issues. I've sent out 3 in the last 3 weeks with CPY2. Your chip should be CPY2DIA3.
Since I know that CPY2DIA3 is good code the problem is one of the following:
1. Your truck has been reflashed at some point.
2. Your computer is one of the 1998 - 2000 computers that doesn't have the power jumper soldered in place.
Both should be covered in the trouble-shooting guide I include with all chips. Go to the page referenced on the trouble-shooting guide and see if your computer matches that computer (you have to look VERY closely at the power jumper points to see if they aren't connected). If that's the case, call me and we can arrange for your computer to be overnighted to Diablo and they can add the jumper and test the chip attached to the computer for FREE.
If that's not the case, I can put in a request for a 4-bank code for CPY2. That will work if your computer has been reflashed in about 99% of the cases. If, however, that doesn't work then it MUST be a case of the jumper and again, we'd arrange to have Diablo add the jump.
The key thing to remember is DON'T PANIC. Let me tell you a story, one that happened tonight on the way home..... and keep in mind I'm VERY experienced with chips. I've been running a Diablo in my truck for a while and I've used both it and the Superchips in my truck. I prefer the Diablo but since its more agreesive it occasionally requires octane booster in my truck if I don't put in a good name brand gas. I did a compare of a recent Superchips file for my ECU code and noticed that it had been updated so I figured this morning that I would try out the new code to see if it was better than the Diablo.
....it wasn't. Anyway, I'm driving along tonight and the truck dies. I immediately know its a chip connection issue and since I've been running a chip for a long time I know the connector is clean. I've had customers blame a Diablo or a Superchips as faultly because "it ran for a while and died". Well, its hard to reason with someone in that position but I know from experience that 95% of the time its the connection if the vehicle suddenly stalls. In my case, the truck ran fine for about 50 miles today before it died. The Ranger/Explorer has clearance problems with a Superchip and I know the chip must have jiggled around and killed the connection even though I secured it well. I pulled over, jiggled the computer box (I had foolishly left my tool box at home so I couldn't remove the chip) and started the truck up. It died twice on the way home but I managed just fine. I removed the chip, put it on my Superchips box and read it just fine. The chip is 100% good. A customer would have called it a bad chip (my wife called it names far worse). The way to solve this issue with the Superchips and a Ranger/Explorer is to cut off the plastic tabs inside the computer box holder and the Superchips clears just fine. BUT..... I've seen Diablo's have the same problem and inevitably its the connection and not the chip.
Moral of the story: relax. 99.9% of the chip problems are correctable and attributed to the connection or power jumper.
Send me an email privately or call me on Monday and we'll take care of it. :-)
I then talked to Alex at Diablo and he told me that it was extremely easy to solder the jumper on. However, I decided not to mess with a $500 module so I packed it all up and sent it to Diablo in Sanford FL.
Should have it back by Thursday.... Will post an update when I'm fixed.
THANKS KEN... you set my mind at ease and I'm looking forward to " throwing money away on tires" !!!!
