I am nearing the end of rebuilding my truck, and it is a beautiful dark blue (2003 Sonic Blue Pearlcoat -- Ford) My question is this. Neither of my bumper has any decent chrome left, and I don't have the money to rechrome or replace them. I would like to know if I should paint one or both of them to match the vehicle, or paint one or both of them black. What do you guys think? The rear is a appx 10" step bumper, and the front is original.
hmmm...good point. I never thought of that. I could paint them to match my mirrors and tailgate letters (white). Now I thoroughly can't make up my mind. Anyone else have an opinion? Thanks.
Personally I don't like the monochromatic look of body colored bumpers on vintage trucks and black looks even worse. I would paint them the original white color or possible Argent as Ford did use that on factory step bumpers and a few front bumpers later on.
Thanks for all the input. I'm starting to think that I will probably go with white bumpers. The paint I'm using is extremely expensive, but it isn't possible to get a good used bumper around here that has chrome that looks any better than mine. My truck definately is not just show, so I think I'll paint them white, and when I come across some extra money (yeah, right...) I'll get them rechromed. Thanks again for the opinions.
I am thinking about doing a similar truck's grille and bumpers in a metallic silver.
New bumpers aren't all that much, though. A new chrome front bumper can be bought for less than $200 and the rear for probably $150. I lucked out and got a new front one for $90.
