Axle differences

Is there any difference between a 78 and 79 front axle? Is the differential on the left side?

Are they different than the early bronco front axles?

The 78-79 are the same dana44. Fords all have the pumkin on the drivers side.
The early broncos had the same axles, but they were chopped a little shorter.

Shorter as in the width...

I heard somewhere that the axle shafts on the early bronco were a little smaller..is that true?

I would have asked in the axle forum, but I figured it would be better here since it's really specific

I can't recall all of the info on this but I had looked into it at one time. The EB 44 axles can accept and people do use the full size 44 axle shafts so that they can run the stronger u-joint. The outer part of the axle I think has something to do with the groove for the retaining clip. I am sorry I don't know more. You may try the EB forum. I am sure someone there will be able to help you. I sold all of my EB stuff and haven't been following it any more. I still have two sets of full size 44 axles shafts lying around if yoiu need a measurement.
