i have the transmission off of a dodge 318 and was wondering if it would bolt up to my 360. the c6 i have is on it's last leg and i need a temp. replacment so it can be rebuilt. i have heard that some dodge and ford transmissions will swap so i was just wondering. like i said it is off of a 318 and it is a 3 speed auto. i would be thankful for any help.
I know of no dodge trannies that will bolt up to a ford engine but I do know it won't bolt to an FE. You will have to get the C6 rebuilt. They are very cheap to have rebuilt. $600 should get you a complete job and thats removal and install.
thanks for the help. i guess i'll just have to park the old truck for a week or two to have it rebuilt. or i could just buy on of those street fighter trans from summit. have you heard anything about them.
Broaderperformace is probably going to give you the best bang for the buck. His stock trannies are way better than stock. That is all he does is C4s and C6s.
It might be a 460 with a 727 Torqueflight behind it. They didn't put FE s in trucks in 79. I know you can run a turbo 400 behind an FE but I don't see why you would wanna do that.
i dont see why in the world you would put a dodge tranny in a ford to begin with, around my area dodges are going to the shop to get the tranny rebuilt, you dont see many fords dropping there tranny.

just out off couriosity, will a chebby bolt to a ford trans?thanks bob
sorry to keep this subject going, but how would you put a turbo 400 behind an FE? does it need an adapter or will it just bolt up? sorry for all the questions. i don't know alot about engines but my dad is an all out chevy guy and he has a few turbo 350 and 400's in his garage. the reason i need a transmission so bad is that this truck is my daily driver and i don't want to have to start driving my 69 to work. but thanks for all the help you all have given me so far.
Originally posted by 4WD67F250 the "Dodge swap" he is refering to is most likely the NV4500 5 speed manual tranny. its very spendy but a good swap if you like manuals.
I understand the NV4500 to be an OD manual. That's why it's appealing. 5th gear is something shy of 1:1, probably in the .75:1 range. This helps the old FEs with gas mileage.
yes the nv4500 i think would be a perfect fit for any old FE, it has a good low first gear to creep around in, (trailer pulling, offroading) and it has a GOOD overdrive so you can cruise comfortably at a good speed with out having to turn 3400 RPM.
i seriously considered doing the swap, but the tranny itself is gonna set you back 14-15 hundred, if you are lucky you can find one CHEAP. they have them out there for $1000 or so, but they want cores, so your still gonna have to pay. so you take your 1500 + 600-700 for an adapter kit from advanced adapters. and you get all your clutch stuff and linkage fixed up good, your looking at a wad of money and a good bit of time.
if your like me and your only 22 or so, and you plan on keeping and taking care of the truck it is probibly worth it in the long run, especially if that is what you really want, but i just cant justify spending the beans on it right now
I hear you there! it will take a good while to regain the loss in cost of the swap to justify it at this time. I too am a young fella and money is tight anyway you put it when its going to cost 2k for a tranny. although it would be nice to have.

Durk... if you're still following this, my honest opinion (take it or leave it) is it will cost more and take longer to convert your dodge auto to fit your ford than it will to just have your C6 rebuilt.
