70 429 rear main seal

70 429 rear main seal

Anyone R+R a rear main on this motor? What all is involved? I don't know if they used the 1 piece rubber or if they were using the 2 piece seal. I guess if it is a 2 piece seal I could do it with the motor in the truck? Does the crank have to be taken out completely? What a bummer!!

My 84 460 was a 2 piece. I dont know if that helps you or not.

No, you have to remove oil pan , remove rear main & K D tools makes a tool called sneakey pete, to remove the the old seal & reinstall the new one !!!

sneaky pete=chinese finger?? I think I know what that is. Do you know if it is rope or rubber? Must be a 2 piece also? thanks

Get the rubber seal, it is much better(i.e. less chance for leaks).
