Alright here is the scenario.
95 F150 351 4x4 31x10.5x15 mud tires no other mods yet.
Getting tax money back soon and i will have about $2000 to upgrade truck. What I want to upgrade is the preformance and the gas milage most. It is getting 9 to 10 mpg now. What would you recomend to do to the truck to improve the HP an MPG it also seems to be underpowered for some reason. the clock has 214000.
My thoughts are upgrade exhaust. What brand?
Air intake again what brand is best for the money?
I was also considering putting a crate 302 in a friend can do the install cheap.
I have already done a tune up and the usul things to improve these things. Still have to do the O2 sensors though.
I would also like to put a mild lift on it too.
I know its a lot of questions but any thoughts would be helpful.
Last resort would be to sell this truck and put the tax money into one with less miles.
OK I understand the headers and and dual and the KN FIPK. What should be rebuilt in the engine and explain the supercharger. Just assume i am an auto illiterate ( whick is not quite true but close)

Have you ever heard the phrase " there is no replacement for displacement"?
You currently have the 351. If you dropped a 302 in then you will be taking a step back because it is a smaller motor.
I would say rebuild the whole engine instead of stepping into the 302.
Supercharger? That is a world of its own. It is a bolt on performance gain. It will add enormous amount of HP & Torque between certain RPMS of the engine. They can be rather spendy depending on where you get it. The cheapest I've seen was $2500.00.
If I were you, I would just go for the simple bolt on stuff that will give you a little gain then save up the money for a performance rebuild of your 351. It can cost alot to rebuild that engine depending on what you want done.
Thaks for the info so far. What would you recomend for the bolt on additions? It has 3.55 gears with the factory LS should I maybe upgrade the gears for better powerband?

Chris, about the gears: unless you're towing something or hauling something heavy like a camper, or intend to go with larger tires than what you have now, your 3.55's are fine for that truck and engine. If you are towing, 3.73's would give you more pulling power and you probably won't lose much cruising speed and will probably get better mileage towing and similar mileage when unloaded if you have overdrive. 4.10's will give you alot of pulling power but you will lose cruising speed and unloaded mileage will most likely suffer unless you change your driving habits, eg: drive slower. I would only go to 4.10's on that truck if I was going to pull something very heavy or planning to put bigger tires on the truck. It is also not cheap to change gears on a 4x4: about $600 per axle.
