I need a set of 6 1/2" door speakers for my truck. A friend has a 2-way Clarian set out of a SAAB thay he'll give to me for next to nothing. The only thing is that they are rated a 2 OHM's resistance.
Is the 2 OHM's a problem ? - If I get them will I have to modify them in some way? - the Ford door speakers I have now are rated at 4 OHM's and did sound good until they got damaged.
I want to connect them to the speaker output from the radio. The radio I have has plenty of power to drive the speakers. The radio did fine with the 4 OHM speakers I had before.
I am hoping I can connect the 2 OHM speakers inplace of the old 4 OHM speakers. If I can't just plug in the 2 OHM speakers, what do I need to do to make them work?
It might be too much load on the radio's amp, But you could run another set of 2ohm in series, that would give you a 4ohm load. You may be able to find some 2 ohm resisters at radio shack also.

The amp in your head unit is not suited to drive a 2 ohm speaker. While it may be OK for a while if you do not overdo it with the volume control, it's not recommended. It all comes down to the fact that electronic equipment is designed to do a certain task within certain limits. If that fact is ignored, bad things happen.
I got quite the selection of those 'good sounding' stock ford speakers lying
around that you apparently like
wants some?
but serioously-Just get some different speakers and save yourself
the headache

how much were you going to buy them off him for? i wouldn't wire them in a series because it wouldn't be a stereo anymore, it wouldn't be two channel, everything would be mono. same signal to each speaker. but i wouldn't run the radi oat 2 ohm either, that will be too much, it'll either fry it or the thd% (audioable distortion) will be so hi that it will sound like crap.

it's really easy to put an inline resistor to get you to the 4 ohms but it's also easy to buy them that way to! sorry if i'm to late for any helpful info.
