My recently rebuilt 78 400 is getting a holley 650cfm (I think truck avenger) carb dynomax headers edelbrock performer 400 intake mallory unlite distrubuter comp cams 268h and a new timing chain. plus a K&N air cleaner, those are the parts I have so far. With the engine being at stock settings now the power according to Bubba's web page should be around 160 hp @ 3800 and 276 @ 2000. My question is what kind of power gains can i expect from each of the listed parts? I need this info so i know what to buy/do to get my engine to an ideal power level. Thanx for any help!
Not sure exactly what you are asking but some advice for what it's worth The carb maybe a little small but will probably be ok for what you want (I think) the comp 268h is a great cam for pickups I have used it and really liked the power gains, you mentioned the unilite dist but no mention of ignition box or coil these are some areas to address as the stock ones are ok but could really be improved apon I personally run MSD but the mallory box is good (although some of the guys from other forums will know I don't like the unilite dist but you have it run it) I would also probablly say run a 1 in phenolic spacer under the carb this helps tremendously expesially on the preformer intake. You mentioned headers I assume you are running dual exhaust prefferble would be atleast 2.5in all the way through.
hope that helps, and jsut my 2cents worth
oh I don't have an ignition box we disconnected that a long time ago. I want to know how much power these few boltons will add to my engine. the carb is going to be replaced with a 650 when I get the cam.
