I have a 4 year old female Akita, weighs in around #70. Wonderful dog I picked up at the animal shelter, one of the best moves of my life, no plans to have more then one as barely have time for her at the moment.

Ha! That picture looks like triple trouble! We have always had two dogs. One is usually older. Now we have a Shepard mix that is 11 years, and a Lab mix that is two years. The Lab X replaced our boxer a year and 1/2 ago who only lived to 11 years old. Been told that is good for a boxer, though. Hope and expect our Shepard X to be happy and healthy for several more years. She is still in great shape at 11. Having the younger one seems to keep the older one happy.

I've got a Chihuahua female, 2 yrs old. Maybe weighs all of 5 pounds. Awesome dog though. I don't know why people think these dogs are so mean!

And to horse_trader,

My Dad has two aussie shepards. One is Black and tan, the other is a blue merle. Since there is no livestock to herd, they just herd whoever is in the back yard with them. Really cool dogs!

2 Giant Schnauzers.
The male (Parker) is about 3 years old and weighs about 100lbs. Someone saw a picture of my other 2 Giants on a reef aquarium website I had, and directed me to a shelter where he was held.
He was a year old at the time and was uncontrolable. It took a bit of training, but he's a great dog now.
Craigen is about 7 now and is still as active as she was as a puppy. She weighs about 70lbs. She was also a shelter rescue.

They are great dogs but still don't hold a candle to my first Giant.. Targus. Targus was amazing! I rescued him at 1 year old and had 10 great years whth him. I never taught him a thing and he was perfect! As we were walking out of the shelter where i rescued him he took a HUGE dump right on thier fancy carpet...and never ONCE did anything like that in my house in his entire life. If he didn't like someone there always turned out to be good reason. One time this scumbag tried to frame me for some petty crime and when I went to confront this fool I took Targus along...He snapped at this guys dog, took his bone and chewed it to bits while I wes yelling at this guy. After I put that fool in his place and started walking out, Targus took what was left of that bone and threw it at this guy with his mouth! And HIT HIM!!!
I once whispered at him to pinch my girlfriend on the butt and HE DID IT! I have dozens of similer stories about him. He was the most amazing dog and I think about him all the time. He died about 3 years ago.

Best dog I ever had was a German Shepard/St. Benard cross breed, could lift his leg and wash the windows on a Honda when he went for the tire. Current dog is a Golden Retreiver crossed with a large black dog that can jump really high fences. My experience has been the mixed mutts just seem to be easier to train and resist genetic defects. Only keep one dog at time, they don't seem to roam around that way.

Neighbor has a registered Chocolate Lab all of a year old that has already had hip surgery for arthritis, paid over $700 for her.

Shepard, when we were living with my fiancee's mother, we only had the American Eskimo that is in the middle. It was my fiancee's dog pretty much. Well my parents dogs had a litter of 11 and we didn't want to see all of them go to the pound so we took 2. My parents kept 2 as well, giving them a total of 5 dogs. When we moved out her mother wanted to keep the eskimo for a companion so we left him there and took our other dogs with. We recently brought the Eskimo home a few months ago because she was neglecting the dog. Everytime we went over there no matter what the weather the dog was outside. Rain, snow, didn't seem to matter. And no one would be home. The dog was dirty and was being fed very cheap food that was not good for him. We finally decided to bring him home with us where he is now much happier. He has his pals to play with again, with more room to run.

dhermesc, my parents used to have a German shepard St. bernard mix too. It was in fact a great dog. She lived to be 18 years old when her hips just couldn't take no more and she had to be put down. I think that is one of the hardest things my dad has ever had to do. I am with you on the mutt thing as well. They seem to be much more tolerable to things than a pure bred. Especially when it comes to food. Although we don't feed our dogs a lot of table scraps. They are lucky if they get pizza crust. Although some of their treats start to smell pretty good sometimes.

Got one right now. 2 year old Dalmation. Guess he weighs in about 60 pounds or so. NO clue. He's always eating and running the yard. He stays in good shape with the kids running around. That dog will tear the door down if I try and leave in the 79; tuck or the 65 Galaxie. He loves to ride. Me too for that matter. Kids named him Spot. Real funny. I get lots of looks when I yell for him at the park or when we go to the landfill or something. Like I couldn't have come up with a better name they think. I always wanted a Bulldog, I think the English is the short sully looking one. My kind of dog, so ugly he's cute, big old jowls, short legs, lays around alot. Put him on a creeper and push him around the garage. Teach him how to fart and call him Daisy. Would be loads of fun. My friend has a huge dog about 1 year old. Big but really beautiful and friendly. Have to call him and see what breed. Later.

I LIVE IN A ZOO!!!

We have 3 dogs, Golden Retriever, Black Lab/Pit Bull Mix and a Shih Tzu, 4 Cats, 5 Birds and 2 aquariums!

I like the 2 big dogs, they would lick you to death before hurting you, but if you touch either of my kids, prepare to lose and arm or worse!

I kinda feel like Marlin Perkins!

I have 2 beagles, Dixie and Bugsy. Bugsy (the male) is in front with the red harness and Dixie (the female) is in the rear with the yellow harness. Bugsy is about 6-7 and was rescued from the pound and weighs more than he should, about 40 lbs. Dixie is about 3 and I got her as a puppy and she is perfectly proportional at about 35-40 lbs. She is taller and carries the weight better. Anyway, they're like my kids and I couldn't imagine being without them.
