check engine light

I had the same problem at around 150k miles. The engine would make a loud whistle sound when not accellerating. I figured out that it was a vacuum hose of some type located behind the intake (the rubber hose has deteriorated) and I replaced it myself and the engine now runs fine. However, the light still remains on and it's getting annoying. How do I reset the computer or otherwise have it turned off without going to the dealer and spending a fortune?

Welcome.

Just disconnect your battery for 10 to 15 minutes. This ought to do the trick.

There area few auto parts retailers who will let you borrow their hand held scanners. The auto zone in my area does it, and you can reset your OBD in a matter of seconds.
