Cleaner wax is mildly abrasive, and is designed to remove mild surface contaminants. I use Mothers Cleaner liquid, removing with a buffer, every spring. For the rest of the year, I use Meguires Gold Class liquid.
I'm not sure what you mean by "regular" wax. Carnuba waxes have a small amount of the natural wax "carnuba", and then there are synthetic waxes.

Yup. And it's more a difference between polish and wax. Polish is for removing oxidized and faded paint, wax is for a little shine and protection. So, polish the old paint, wax the new stuff- NEVEr use polish (with its abrasives) on new paint!
also, when i was waxing yesterday, a guy came up and let me use this pink stuff in an unmarked plastic container... said he got it from a friend at a car dealership in Germany. all I know is that mysterious stuff was better than any product I've EVER used
