I've got a question about my power steering pump on my 77 f150 4x4 (351). When ever I turn it makes a loud whining sound. I've checked the fluid level and it was ok. Any thoughts?

Could be:
1- Water in the fluid (if you go deep-mudding)
2- Air in the pump (if it's ever been low enough or you have changed pumps recently)
3- Bearings are going bad
4- Seals are shot.
Could be the pump is worn out. Any time you replace a power steering system component, pump, hose, box, etc add a return line filter to the system. This will help prevent component failures but it will not revive damaged ones.
Wix transmission/PS filter #58964
200 psi working, pressure relieved, magnetic
change yearly or 12000 miles
Ford equivalent filter kit #XC3Z-7B155-AA
filter alone #XC3P-7B155-BA
The pump on my 79 whined extremely loud for year like probably close to 10 (it whined when i was learning how to drive in it and that was when I was like 8). It finally went out about a year ago so it might not be anything to get worked up about. (but it's prolly better to be safe than sorry cause the rag joint's don't like going to non power steering.....and wire doesn't make an acceptable rag joint haha)
My fluid is not milky. However I did have a leak that I fixed, so it could possibly be air in the system. How would I go about getting the air out? Thanks for all the info as always everyone has been a big help!!!!!
Lift the front end up till the tires are just touching the ground. Make sure the fluid level is OK. Then start the engine and move the steering from stop to stop several times(taking care not to force it on the stops), then check the fluid level. Do this a few times and you will purge all of the air out.
