milky oil

i just bought a 460 from my neighbor and he told me that it was running and was very strong. when i drained the fluid out the oil was a lite brown solid milky color. can this happen overtime to a healthy motor? or does it meen that the motor has a blown head gasket or worse??

I had similar recently, where my 460 had been sitting 6 months before use.Luckily,I changed oil before turning it over--out drained a bunch of clear water before the oil........I don't know where it came from-must have drained in,but now that the engine's running ,everything is fine and clear!!-hopefully you're as lucky!!--I'm sure you'll get better advice than any I can give you,but thought I'd inject some hope,as a start!!
Next thing to inject is some pressure through the spark plug holes-easy if you have a compressor and an old compression testor to adapt.Take the covers/pan off, rotate the engine so that valves close on a cylyndar and you'll see if it holds pressure,or if not add a bit of oil as in a comp. test. ......cheers!!!

Milky colored oil = water contamination
Water comes from 2 places, cooling system leak or condensation
A pressure test of the cooling system should rule it in or out.
Condensation happens every time the air in the crankcase cools below it's dew point. The blow-by gases in the crankcase are heavy with moisture (notice the exhaust pipe drips until it is hot).
A few short (less than 5 minute) trips where the engine is allowed to completly cool off in between will discolor the oil. A longer (greater than 15-20 minutes) will boil away the water and make the oil look normal again.
