Excursion Mirrors on a F350 SD

I purchased a pair of 2002 power heated Excursion trailer tow mirrors for my 2000 F350 SD. Yes, they do fit, just as advertised.

However, the wiring is different. The F350 mirrors have a round 4 male pin plug (3 wires used). The Excursion mirrors have a 10 female pin flat connector. ( 5 wires used - two additional for heat I'm sure).

For now, I just spliced the connectors off the old mirrors onto the new ones, so the new ones have both style connectors. I suppose I need to figure out how to wire in the heat and a switch to use to turn it on/off.

Does anyone know if you can buy just the switch that moves the power mirrors? Mine travel in a diagonal direction only - no up/down or left/right. Just up and right or down and left. Both sets of mirrors have done this so I'm assuming it is the switch.

You re-wired your mirrors wrong if they only move up and down. You will have to figure it out by switching wires around. I just installed the power, heated, with turn signals and i had the small round plug, the new mirrors had a flat seven wires. I beleive the black with blue tracer and black with yellow tracer are the heat wires. You can mount a switch in the truck for the heated mirrors. They only need a power and a ground. Get a lighted switch and tap the switched accesery wire.

Scott- thanks for the reply. Both sets of mirrors have behaved the same way. It's as if the up/right and down/left buttons are the same. No difference in mirror movement - they travel diagonally. I wish they would move just up/down or left/right but they move at a diagonal. I'm not saying that the wiring by prior owners is not incorrect, but I definately wired the new ones the same as the old ones and have the same behavior as before. I didnt see any evidence of prior owners having been in there.

The heat on these mirrors is the two yellow wires on the same pin and a black ground. 5 pins total are used - all on the top row of a 10 pin connector that is 5 over 5.

Any chance I can get a new mirror control switch from an Excursion and use that to control the heat? My Audi has heated mirrors - they turn on whenever I turn on the electrical defrost - of course, the F350 does not have that option.

I put different mirrors on my '99 & ran into the same thing.
'99 - '01 use the round plug & '02 - up use the flat plug.
They make adapters to use the later mirrors on the early trucks.
You can get them from ford, a set came with my mirrors.

Mirror Adapters and replacement pins

I'm about to do the same swap. I have an '02 truck with the flat plug. The mirrors are from an earlier model excursion with the rond style plugs. I'm addin heat and signal so I will have to do a bit of wiring. Do they make adapters to put that would allow older mirrors to be put on a newer model. I also want to find the male and female pins so I can add the necessary wires into the existing plugs.

Does anyone know where to mind the correct pins?

Pico Canada make the pins but I have not been able to cross-reference the part numbers on the connectors in order to find the right pins.

jhemr,
Do you mean that you received a wiring harness that adapts the new style mirror harness to the older style harness? No splicing?

Are you talking the new mirrors w/ heat&lights or just power?

I'm thinking of doing a similar mirror swap, just curious. Thanks for the info.
