Quick Question Please Help

I have been looking into getting a set of gt40p heads for my 351w and I think I have found a set from a 98 explorer. The problem is that the car is in a different state so I cant look myself and the yard wont take a good look because they are being stubborn(too busy I guess). He says they are stock heads off of a 98 explorer and thats all I really need to know. Are these the gt40p's? Were all the 5.0 explorers equipped with these heads? Thanks.

Ryan

I meant to say that he told me they are stock heads off a 98 explorer with a 5.0. Also I meant to ask: Did they put any other heads besides the gt40p's on the 5.0 in '98?

Nope. Around 97- 97 1/2 down, the heads on the 5.0 explorer/ mountaineer were gt-40. Around 97- 97 1/2 up, the heads were gt-40p. Tell the lazy sucker that if he wants your money he will look. All he has to do is look at the side of the cylinder heads near the first head bolt on the bottom right there will be stamped "GTP" and on the front of the head to the left of the freeze plug there will be four noticable vertical lines.
Since its a 98, you could see how some of the 97 1/2 gt-40 heads could have been put on or carried over to some 98's, so I would definitely want him to check. Depending on what he is asking, check ebay, I believe I saw a couple decent priced sets, one already had the head bolts opened up for use on 351w's, and I think they were both pretty fresh heads. Good luck
