or you could drive fast and often on backroads with m/t tires!
I thought the gravel roads I drive all the time had already took the black stuff off the frame with only 1200 miles. But today I got out the hot water pressure washer and did some good cleaing and the coating is still as good as new, just had good old mud from the gravel roads stuck to it. There's still a chalk mark on from the factory, apperantly under the wax or something. Of course I haven't driven in any road salt yet though, I'm sure that'll take care of it pretty quick.
So why do you want to remove the coating? If you just need a small area a wire brush in a drill should work I'd imagine.
i'm lifting my truck on 14" national springs with 40" ground hawgs in about two weeks. i've seen a couple of superduty's out here that dont have the undercoating on their frames. their frames were cleaned down and repainted from what i saw.... the shop is charging about 700 to strip it down and paint it.... i was just trying to get info to see if i could do it myself,,,,,,thanks for asking
Well, Tuesday I had a gooseneck ball put in and when they welded it to the frame the guy used a putty knive to scrape the coating off so he could weld. It was stuck on pretty good. If you have a the time this might be the way to go. I'd suggest talking to a body shop and they might be able to suggest something. Good luck
