My 79 ranchero has a 351m. i am looking for a pair of nice headers that will fit my engine. im not sure if there any out there because there is very little room for a header to fit in the ranchero. if anyone knows of a header that fits i would really like to know. Thanx!
thanx guys. i went on to hookers website from holley and found the 6125hkr. all i need to do now is find a dealer. thanks for the info. it was greatly appreciated.
Despite advice to go with stock exhaust manifolds, I just ordered the 6125-1 ceramic coated Hooker Super Comps for my new 400 engine which will be going in as soon as the headers arrive. Any tips?
I have heard that ground clearance is an issue, but not sure if that was a general comment on Super Comps, or in my specific application (400/C6 in 1973 Ranchero). Also, I have heard comments about cooking the starter and the starter being difficult to replace with the headers on. Hopefully ceramic headers will reduce the cooking risk, but what about access to the starter?
Lastly - I will need to drive the Ranchero to the exhaust shop about 15 miles away - with no exhaust system except the headers. I can deal with the police and the noise, but will the collector output be aimed squarly at the floor pan? Will I need to worry about burning through the floor pan?
You will need to be a bit careful going over speed bumps, also a heat blanket for the starter is a good idea,as it will suffer from heat soak... Replacing is'nt all that bad. The collectors will be just about at the trans cross member. They fit very well, just take your time putting them in..As I stated, you will need to jack up one side of the motor for clerence.. Good luck
