1999 Navigator Headrest Removal - Please Help.

I already searched the forum and only found one thread on this with no replies.

I was wondering the secret to releasing the headrest from the seat. I'm sure many people on here know how these come off and I would really appreciate it if someone would share it with me.

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid or dumb question, but i'd rather ask before I go yanking and tugging and breaking stuff apart.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Not really sure on this but most I have seen have a little button on the very top of the seat back. It is located at the base of the headrest post on the trim that goes around the post. Push it in and pull up at the same time. It should come right out!

Nope, No button

There are little pin holes in them though and i tried putting a paperclip in it to see if it was a release, but it didn't seem to do anything. Anyone else know??

thanks

I can't believe that there is no one on this board that knows this. No one has installed a/v systems here? What's the deal?

Pin Holes

On my 1999 Navigator there are pin holes on top of the seat where the head rest go through and in to the seat. I used a #00 phillips head screw driver but anything more substantial than a paper clip can be used to push the retaining ring located inside the pin hole. I found you had to push pretty good to move it. Once you push through the pin hole with your 00 screw drive you can lift the rod up but it will not come totally out until you do the same thing to the other side.

You'll need to keep upward pressure on the head rest so that the first rod does not slip back down and reconnect while you are trying to get the second rod to release. As you keep upward pressure on the head rest while pushing in the 2nd pin hole both sides should slip out for you.

I hope in the eight years since he asked the question it has already been resolved.

Amazing

I hope the original person asking the question saw the answer. Helped me in 2022… 18 years later 👌
