Replacing O2 sensors, routine maintenance?

I've got a 1999 3.0L FFV Ranger that runs great, averaging around 22MPG. It is getting ready to turn 86K miles, and the only
CEL it has ever had was from a code P0401, which was corrected by changing the DPFE sensor.

I have been hearing a lot about changing out O2 sensors as routine maintenance. My question, what is everybody's feeling on
this especially if it's running good, good MPG, and no CEL????

Knowing when to change an engine sensor is like knowing when to change a light bulb in your living room lamp. If the bulb is burning, dont change it.

They are recommended to be replaced every 60,000 miles. They get coated with carbon over time and do not register as good. This will cause them to tell the PCM to richen the mixture.
It may run ok, but you may pick up some mileage by changing them.

it may set no codes but get lazy. I had one dead by 160K miles and it was setting no codes. I think I would go to maybe 100K miles before replacing it. Aftermarket Bosch are not that expensive, around $40?
