A lot of good a 4wd truck does in 2 foot of snow when the front axle won't engage. Or when it does it disangages on its own. Still under warranty, but the dealer wants to keep it for a few days. HA, there's two foot of snow on the ground!!! I can see the vacuum operated front axle engaging but I want to know if there is another actuator on the transfer case.
What year is the truck.
If Its a 03 like mine could be the shift fork. Two little fingers could break off. My truck been in the shop for over a week now, seems they can't get the part. It's backordered.
I may have the same problem in my 01. when I turn the switch it will engage the front driveshaft but its not turning the front tires so there is something else that isnt engaging.
Hey guys great site and my first post. I have a 99 XLT 4.6 Triton V8. My question is when I engage my 4W and turn the wheel at slow speeds it acts like it is rubbing something. I am not much of a mechanic and not sure how to check it. The 4W light is on and no problem driving straight. It is fine in 2W. Thanks
rds all 4x4s when they are engaged will feel like something is rubbing when your making sharper turns ,with a 4x4 engaged you should try to round out your turns, so dont worry but try not to turn sharp.
That is a google cached link of a conversation about 4hi on pavement. Good read for this topic :P Not specifically for fords though, nonetheless interesting to read.
