Our 2002 7.3l (35k miles) has developed a problem starting in the last few days. It'll take four or five times of hard cranking before it finally fires up; then it smokes badly and idles rough for a minute or two. I'll cycle the key all the way off between cranks just to make sure the glow plugs are good & hot since it has been colder than normal here in northern Ohio this past month (consistently < 20F). There have been no Check Engine lights at all. I drained the water/fuel separator yesterday hoping that it was possible just some water that was freezing in the separator but this didn't help. Once the truck is warm, it starts and idles normally.

Don't know if that is it, he said plugging it in did not fix the problem. I believe that it would (glow plugs) if plugged in. How about Battery's. Battery's are covered for 3 yr/36K.
I would not worry too much, you say there is only 35K, so you are still under warranty.
I've been working to run this load of fuel out of it. It should be pretty much gone today so I'll refill at a different station and see if it wasn't just a bad load of fuel.
Ran the other load of fuel out of the truck and re-filled with #1 at a completely different station (brand & town). Absolutely no problems starting thus far, including a 12-degree morning on Saturday without the block heater. Appears that maybe fuel was the problem.
