My dad is swapping out the 6.9 diesel in his 86 F350 Dump. We replaced it a while back with any aftermarket rebuilt motor, well it didn't last long, won't make that mistake again. Anyway we have another motor from an 85 F350 that we're junking. This doner truck has an auto tranny, The 86 has a 4spd manual. I just wanna make sure it's gonna work. I told him I think the flywheel will have to be swapped, put on a new clutch, and the manual should bolt right up...does that sound about right?
Yes it does, out of curiosity what brand of rebuilt motor did you put in? I just had a Dealers Diesel complete drop in reman motor puke antifreeze out the stacks today after only 2759 miles. Warranty is 100 % parts and labor, but tear down a motor with less than 3000 miles on it, ****ed me off.
Yeah I hear ya on that. It was from ATK Engines. I've put two motors in that damn truck, other one was a used one he got from a junk yard or just some guy. If your in need of a replacement engine you can get a used one, which I wouldn't do unless I knew it's history or In my opinion the best way to go is just bite the bullet and get a remanufactured one from Ford. They're very pricy but they are quality units.
