How can I check the fuel pump relay? It's been replaced a few months ago. All of a sudden the fuel pump doesn't charge when I turn the key. Fuel pump is just over a year old. I replaced the ignition switch just days ago so I'm sure that's not the problem. Ignition module is also new.
Got the code, KOEO 96, according to Haynes thats"fuel pump circuit open-battery toECA/EEC processor". Going to check that out after work. Any suggestions much appreciated
I've never had to fool with the fuel pump circuits on my Fords, but one thing you can try is to ground the self test conector. This provides a ground to the voltage (key at run) coming from the fuel pump relay. You should at least hear the relay click closed, unless its shot or not recieving voltage.
"ground the self test connector", please elaborate. When I turn the key, I can hear a click from the engine compartment; I assume this is coming from the relay. I can't hear the normal hum from the fuel pump. Rainy here tonight, I'll check for sure tomorrow.
Thanks for the input,
Chuck
Chuck, take a look at the Ranger forum "Fuel pump relay" Rockledge has provided an xlnt link on how to energise the fuel pump relay from the self test connector.
Tried grounding self test connector. Fuel pump relay clicks but no hum from the fuel pump. There is pressure at the schrader valve though I'm not sure how much or if this matters in this situation. Code 96 fuel pump circuit open-battery to ECA/EEC processor; where is this processor? Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.
