I was wondering if changing the Intake manifold, as well as changing the fan to an electric fan would increase, if any, the Hp of a 88 Bronco XLT. And by the way, what was the Hp rated of a Bronco XLT?
What motor do you have? 351 or 302? I don't know what the XLT came with, or if it was optional. My 94 Bronco Eddie Bauer has a 5.8L 351, and is something like 210 HP stock. ConsumerReports.com will tell you all of that info, for any year.
experts claim a 10-15 HP increase by going to a elec. fan. as far as intakes go, it all depends on what intake and the set up its going on, just remember it not all about 1 thing, if you do 5 little things worth 10 HP each, thats 50 HP you gained. good luck! DW
The only real aftermarket intake for an 88 e.f.i. is the edelbrock and it is a helluva alot of money for both upper and lower, I looked into this! There was really not much improvement they could make on a truck intake, It was pretty efficent. When I talked to a rep at edelbrock he said that gasket matching the upper to lower intake manifolds and the lower to the heads will give you a horsepower boost. Save your money. I picked up a set of electric fans for my work truck and they work pretty good (duals). Other than the basic do-dadds they sell for increasing h.p. the only other option would be to up-grade the cam and an aftermarket set of heads that are emmisions compliant and an add-on computer for programming the engine to run at max performance. There are alot of aftermarket companies out there. What I did was pick-up a copy of 5.0 and fast Ford magazine and look at all the adds, you'll be amazed!!!
Edelbrocks upper n lower give u a hp raise of 34 ponies installing the throtttlebody will result between 8 - 12ponies which i feel is significant for a stock 210 hp truck. Unless u wanna turbo boost it, that 1000s thats $$$$$$ in my book.
my 02 cents TR
