As a fairly new PSD owner, I have read a lot on this forum about CPS. However, I am not familiar with it. Can someone tell me what it stands for, what it does, and what to watch out for with it? It seems to be the culprit to many problems.
The CPS is the Camshaft Position Sensor, Ford calls it the CMP sensor. The sensor is located just above the crank pulley and to the right. Very common to have these fail and cause staling concerns, no start concerns, hesitations, etc. I carry a spare in my glove box just in case. The sensor basically tells the processor where the engine is in its rotation so it can calculate when to fire the injectors, etc. Very easy to replace once it goes out but it's kind of pricey.
How often do these normally go out? Is this every ? miles, or does it vary? Do they go out from damage from dirt, grease, etc, or just "go out" for no particular reason?
Also, I see you are a Flowmaster Service Advisor. Do they make a dual set up for the PSD?
