I just purchased a 2000 F150 Supercab. Its a very nice vehicle. Unfortunately, the electric door locks are not working properly? Any advice on fixing or replacing them yourself? Not interested in paying the dealerships to do it.
Did you ever get the locks worked out? I am buying a 99 Crew Cab with the same problem on the driver's side. Sometimes works...sometimes doesnt. Almost as if the motor/silenoid (sp) is getting weak.
Remove the door panel & check for power and ground ,should be the same voltage as the battery,if its the same when you hit the lock or unlock button youll have to replace the actuator assy, the new ones are a little different looking but work fine ,I just replaced all 4 on a 2000 excursion so more than likely youll need to see your local Ford Dealer .List about $45.each .Remove the outside door hanle if you replace them, its easier to get at ,takes close to an hour each. Good Luck
I'm pretty sure after looking into it some more that I need to replace the actuator on mine. I haven't done any testing...but that is the most likely solution.
If I press the lock button, lets say, the lock will not fully engage...I can press it the rest of the way manually. I can then unlock it fine, but pressing the lock button again doesn't quite do it. I can, however, press the lock button rapidy four or five times, and it will finally go all the way down to the lock position...a little at a time. There does not seem to be any binding...and the lock is easily locked and unlocked manually.
I need to take mine apart and see what is going on in there. They are acting the same as GoldStarKimber stated above, sometime they work other times they move a little at a time. Wonder if cleaning the contacts switch would help?
Sorry to say all 4 switches were acting poorly, wit 2 completly dead, and since they are such a pain to get to I replaced them all .youll need to get the 2 screws out 1 under the door light bezel and the other was under the power window switch be careful on the door panel as it will have guides that go downwards not push pins, just push upwards and it should pop off. Good Luck.
Thanks, I ll do some searching! Did you get the 99 Crew Cab? If so are you going to repair the actuators yourself?
The deal is not done yet...but I expect that tomorrow I will be signing the papers. I have had all weekend to drive this truck..and can't find a reason I shouldn't buy it. I even took it by the Ford dealer for a checkup and all is well. I was a little leary of the high miles...but then again, I bought a vehicle with less than 40K and the transfer case went out 2 wks after I got it. Ya just never know! I am prepared to keep this one for a while...so if it breaks...I'll just have to fix it.
If and when I fix the actuators, I will do it myself. Looks like it can be done without too much trouble. Not a major deal right now though, so I probably won't even mess with them for a while.
