I was wondering if the 54 and the 56 door latch mechanisms are the same. They appear to have a different part number but they look the same. What do you guys know. Ed
Ed,
I have asked the same question myself. The striker plates are different, the '56 are thicker. In '56 they emphasized safety, seat belts (as an option), steering wheel (recessed column), and doors were not to fly open upon impact. The striker plate was to have a cover over it to help hold the star latch in place. My questions were: because the striker plate is thicker, is the star latch thinner, or is the door, or the door jamb recessed to make clearance for the thicker striker plate?
