Well Thanks for finding this old thread either way! I have searched in the past for info on this now I can save this very useful thread.

Perhaps we can talk Jim into a sticky for VERY useful threads. Like this one and maybe my window motor thread and a ton other that I can think of...

Nolan,

I found this old thread useful in the fact I have been wanting to mount a clutch activated compressor where the second alternator would go.

I'm going to copy and paste post #1 to a word document or a PDF or both. If you want a copy let me know.

A clutch operated compressor would be a good addition. In days of old we use to mount York or Tecumseh a/c compressors but I don't see enough room on a PSD

Ray,

I've heard of those Yorks.

It would have to be no larger then an alt. Maybe a small A/C compressor with a manually operated clutch. I'm not looking to run air tools but just air up tires. The snag would be lubrication for the A/C compressor without the lubricant getting in the output air flow. Is there a feasible way of doing this?

I don't know of any way to run the modern a/c compressors since the lube oil runs through the system. The old compressors had a crankcase for oil
Pretty much need some type of oilless compressor

That's what I figured would be the hurdle using an A/C compressor.

If I figure something out you're in Nolan. Gonna be a fall project though.

I should start a separate thread. I'm sure someone has done this already.

On-Board Air - York Oil System Modification
Read the jedis york compressor mod.
I am going to put this on my 6.0 there is enough room there after moving some stuff. 7.3 should be no problem.

Dean,

That's a damn good write-up you found. Thanks for the link. Reps to you.

When your done with your's let us know over here in 7.3 land how it all went. Or at least post the link to your own write-up in 6.0 land.

Quick note on that hose... that's what was in my truck already, but I don't have the 2nd alternator. But anyways, make sure you have a zip tie holding the hose to the block like Payson did in his picture. Mine didn't for some reason and when I was working on the truck one evening, I shoved the hose out of that crotch and got it wedged between the belt and the block. I didn't know I had knocked it outta whack until I had burned a hole through the hose with the belt. I'm interested in mounting a York to the alternator bracket... that's how I found the thread. Any more links/info would be appreciated!

Hey guys, why not move the alt to the lower location and use the upper spot for the compressor?
