removing door panel

I feel somewhat silly asking this but, how do you get the inside door panel off so I can get at the power wndow motor and pulleys. Window working sporadically. several presses to get it to move

I just removed a door panel today on a 1990 F150. I did it to hopefully figure out how to fix my own power windows.

There were a bunch of "posts" so-to-speak to hold the panel in position, and some screws to hold it onto the door.

After I found and removed all the screws, I was able to loosen the posts from the door itself. After several minutes I was able to slip the door panel off the (interior) door handle.

After that I unscrewed the connector to the window/door lock switch, which allowed me to remove the panel entirely.

It looks like a previous owner had tried unsuccessfully to do the same thing because the door panel was a little loose already and some of the plastic posts were broken, but that shouldn't be a problem because they look like a generic kind of part that can be purchased from an auto parts store.

Now, trying to get a look at what I am trying to fix...that is a whole nuther story...

Remove all visable screws. Try to work a putty knife under the door panel. Slide it around and it will "bump" into a "post". Ease a couple of screwdrivers in, one on each side of the post as close as you can get them to the post. Pry gently and it should come out. Move on the the next one. The post is plastic and has the thread set to oppose outward pressure and a head on it that slides into a notch on the panel that the head fits into. You may hear a few pops, this is ok as it is a press in type thing and has to be pulled, not screwed out. Once you have a couple of them out, you can see the others. It is very possible that after you have removed a couple you can slide the panel up and the "post" will stay in the door, having come out of the notch. When you get ready to reinstall the panel, put all the post back into the notches on the panel and press it back on. This is an easy thing to do, and will probably take less than 15 minutes.

As for the window motor. Maybe you have it replaced. The usual fix is the drill holes thru the door frame in order to get to the screw holding up the window motor. Let the motor drop into the bottom of the door. The get that sucker back up and try the switch. It should work. Thatll keep it going a while. You might have to do that on occassion. Ford window motors just get like that. I just have the screw driver and socket down in my door panel for those fixes on the road. Happens.
Anyway, thats one way to buy some time on the window motor.
