Hope someone out there can give me some help with my little problem. Heater and defrost work fine, nice and warm. But the problem is..... whether or not I leave the controls set on after the night before, on crank up, the blower will not work. Only after putting the vehicle in gear, will the blower then kick on. This happens every time I cut off the ignition. I'm sure I have a short somewhere, but have no clue where to start looking. Could anybody give me some ideas? Thanks for the help..
Frankle....
I have the same problem. But it only happens when it is really cold out the night before. It has to be like -10 degrees or less for the blower to stick in the morrning.
On cold morrnings I leave the bronco ideling for 15mins before I leave for work. Usally the blower will have "fixed" itself by the time I come back out to leave. But a few times it has still been frozen until I started driving.
I assume the blower is just getting old and there is a bunch of dirt in the blower-motor. I plan on swaping a new(er) one in there this summer.
When electric motors get old aand dirty...as Mary Kate said.....they have probs...sometimes a little warmth or a bump like the motion going into gear, will allow it to make contact again with the windings and start working. Its kind of a pain, but if you take the motor out, and use some canned air then some electronics cleaner, (Aerosole spray from Radio Shack, it evaporates pretty fast so not to short anything out), should take care of prob. If not then replace the motor. the windings are not used to getting abuse and dirt will beat the hell out of em.
Thanks for your imput, will try the cleaning idea before replaceing. It's just a hassle getting off work on cold nights and not being able to warm the interior up. Thanks again, frankle....
Just looking around Advance Auto parts...blowers are in the $16-20 range with a 15% discount, so we are talking under $20 for the motor. For that I'd have to think twice about pulling the old motor...attempting to clean it...reinstalling it...finding it still doesn't work...pulling it back out, etc. You may be able to clean it some, but the bearings are likely sealed and ungreaseable. I had to do it earlier this year and it's great peace of mind to go ahead and fork over the $15, trash the old motor, and know that you have many good years of service in the new motor.
PS - I have no monetary or business interest in Advance...just a local parts store I use (a lot!)
