You seem to be describing my factory supplied Firestone Steeltex AT tires.I'm going to go with Michelin AT's,probably sooner than later. They have an excellent reputation.I had a set in 15in.and had no complaints whatsoever.

Good Luck

Man I just dont no had the tires on a 1/2ton truck and liked them so when my firestones wore out I thought I would try them again they are lt285 75 r 16 they look great on my two wheel drive truck but just having trouble keeping it between the fences not sure but iam wondering if the side walls are just to weak? They tell me at the tire shop oh just run them for about two thousand miles and they will be fine. But iam not sure if i can wiat that long.

I just bought a set of Michelin LTX M/S for my truck and noticed the same thing. I didn't notice this with my F150, must be the extra weight. I think it's the tread that is making it feel that way, giving side to side. Im hoping this will go away after a few thousand miles.

If I were to guess I would say tread flex is causing the tracking and stability problems. You have more weight and if you look you probably have nice and high treadblocks. All the better to flex.

Just my .02 worth.

After 1800mi.my Firestones feel better than when they were new. They track better and are more stable.I still don't like them though:-X23 .I have owned General tires on a couple of HD Fords (pre SD)and they handled better.

Not all tires with a sidewall rating of "D" are bad. Lots and lots of people running the BFG All-Terrain tires (D rated) and are very happy. IMO, with our trucks it is most important to get a tire with the proper weight-carrying capacity. Sidewall ratings such as D, E, or 10-ply are secondary in importance.

I've only owned 1 set of Kelly tires and I hated them. I'm afraid I can't be of much help other than to say you should check the ratings and make sure they are OK to run on a SD. Otherwise, you might want to head back to the tire shop and see if they'll exchange the Kellys for some other brand. Do this before you get too many miles on them!

I dont know if this makes a difference or not but my squad car is a Ford expedition and we went to a truck tire ( goodyear) and up one size. When I first put these tires on, I was all over the road with wandering and swaying... The Goodyear people said that, being a new tire, I should expect some of this because of the aggressive tread. they said it should go away after some miles have been put on

They were right...the truck straigtened right out... maybe a few miles will help yours.

Good luck

Now that I think about, my drive home from the dealer (about 75 miles) was an adventure. The truck was all over the road. At the time I assumed (and was really hoping because it was horrible) that it was steering linkage and ball joints wearing in. In retrospect it was probably the tires, BFG All Terrain KO's. I had to look at this post a few times before I got to thinking about it because the truck drives straight as an arrow and handles great now, I haven't even thought about for so long it took a while to come back to me.

I'd say let the tires wear in a little and it'll likely go away.

Hey guys iam sorry its taken so long to get back.Tire psi is 65 lbs cold and thats the max they say to use. and for the reason for the d load rating I have what you may call a lucky super duty you see I may pull my trailer which weighs around 6500 lbs about eight times a year the rest of the time it just carrys me to work so I dont think the e load rating was that big of a deal. And as far as putting miles on the tires I have about 500 miles on them and havent seen much improvement heck slammer if you were to get behind me you whould swear I was drunk the guys at the tire dealer tell run them for about two thousand miles yikessssssssssss will need some nerve pills before that.Iam just about to the point of taking them back.thanks everyone for your input take care and happy travels
