I need directions on rebuilding a ford 8". I have a 2.80 rear and im stepping up to 4.11 and wanted to do it myself. Maybe its similar to the 9"? thanks
Do you mean the 8.8"? If so you can get a rebuilding video from a user "badshoe" on ebay. He might not have one being sold right now, but e-mail him and he can put one up for you. Very good video and it's how I learned.
Richmond Gear in Liberty, SC, has a ring & pinion install video that covers the 8.8". It's pretty good, but it assumes you know how to press off bearings, work a dial indicator, etc.
Before jumping to conclusions we need to know what the axle is in. It could be an 8" he is asking about. If so, Yes, it is similar to the 9". You might be able to go off of the same directions as a 9.
There is an FTE tech article quite a ways down about rebuilding a 9", which should be similar to your 8". Is this 8" in the Stang listed in your signature?
Yes it is the 8" in the mustang. I have 3.55 and a posi for the street, and i just wanted to find some info for a gear swap in another housing with a mini spool. I have been told that even though my car makes a good amount of power, since it has low torque, i should give the 8" a chance. Not sure about the old axles though. Thanks for the help, ill check out that article.
