well its been a while since I last came back and the light is still on but then I only replaced the EGR valve and you all are telling me that that might not be the problem that it could be the
DPFE sensor but I have not done that either for now. Questions I have, If I go and clear the code Ill know it will come back on but while its clear and the light does not come on untill a day or so and I send it in to get inspected, will I pass the test while the "check engine light" is off just because the codes were clear?
When I had my last inspection (MO) it was with a bad MAF sensor, bad DPFE sensor, and old plugs and I still got by with a "quick pass" plus I got all of my codes. Killed 2 birds with one stone.
If you are getting bad gas mileage, and your check engine light is on you could have a bad thermostat, the engine doesnt quite get up to temp so the computer runs in the open loop mode (rich), this happened to my 98 4WD Ext-Cab 4.0. Changed the thermostat (15-20min), no more engine light, gas mileage restored.
The gas milage is not a issue with my truck. I think its the DPFE and I dont know if that is it either but it runs fine, no ruff idle, does not die when left to warm up.
I was wondering if I cleared the codes by removing the negitive cable and then rehooking it up if I could pass the inspection because the check engine light would not come on until later.
Clearing the codes isn't going to make the problem go away. The truck's computer just won't know what it is until it's run for a short while. Your best bet is to find a parts store like autozone or advance auto, they'll pull the codes for you for free and they usually reset them when they do. Take note of the codes and then do a search on them here.
