No signal lights

No signal lights
My 86 F-250 has lost its signal lights. Hazards work, no blown fuses and I put in a new signal plug into the fuse panel. I am guessing that the problem may be in the steering column but before I tear it apart I need to know if I am missing something else. Any thoughts on where I should turn or is there a method of confirming the steering column switch is pooched without removing the steering wheel?
