I want to put a T-case on my 78 for the added low gearing it looks simple enough with a divrorced unit?I want a F250 or larger one that IS devorced
Pro's and con's of each?
I want to now the low ranges and durability of the NP 203,205,207,208
I think I will have to shorten the Main drive shaft, cut a nother hole in my floor plate,
bolt up the case and cross member!
Both the 203 and 205 are about 2:1. I think the 207 and 208 are 2.69:1. For a divorced case, I think the only one you can get is one out of a 77.5 and older F250. Most are married and that goes for the others. There are pros and cons to both. If you get a married one, you have to do some tranny stuff as well as driveshaft stuff. If it is divorced, no tranny stuff, but still the driveshaft thing and mounts and linkages may be more challenging. If you are going to keep it 2wd, I would go with either not messing with it or getting a married one and putting it in. This way, you can have ready made linkages and may even find a driveshaft for a late 70s f250 4x4 to fit, saving money. Then, if you want to convert later, you can by just slipping the front axle in, and going. I am not personally a big divorced fan, although, I can't exactly say anything bad about them from the factory. I have seen a few bad retrofits, where they aren't properly mounted, and things wiggle, and flex, and such. Good luck with it. Ted
If you are looking for lower reduction, do a search for a low gear set for the NP 205. There is supposedly a 3:1 gear set coming out for that case anytime now. If not, you could do a doubler 203 mated to a 205= reg lo range + compound low:4"1. It will require some mods to driveline and trans mounts. Off Road Designs sells the adapters to make it work.
