I've been hiding in the background for sometime now, but I finally have a question worth asking. I have a 2002 F250 SC V-10 4x4 and my overdrive light is flashing. Will be taking it to the dealer on Monday, but was wondering if anybody else has had this problem, and what the fix was. The overdrive seems to be working fine, but the flashing idiot light is driving me nuts.
We had it happen on one of our 00's E450's. It ended up being some electric part on the trannsmision. I can't recall what part it was exactly cause it was under warranty so we didn't have to fix it.
I had the same problem on my 2001 SD 2W @ 1500 miles. My OD lite was flashing and the service engine light came on. Took it to the dealer and they scanned the codes and could not find anything wrong. They reset the computer and sent me on my way. Lasted about a week and happened again. Same thing again, scanned codes, reset computer and sent me home again. It lasted a week and happened again.
This time they contacted Ford's Engineering Dept who told them to run a check on the wiring using an "old fashion" meter. They finally found the problem which was resistance in the circuitry and fixed it by adding an additional Ground Wire to the Transmission circuit.
Have not had any problems since. Good luck with your problem
