i have a 97 ford explorer sport and was wondering if the Thunder6000's included with the MTX thunderforms are good or bad, and if the optional amp is worth getting. im not looking for a huge system, i just want really good bass inside my truck. not bass you can hear miles away. also, with the 'premium" JBL audio system would i need to run new wires to my speakers if i were to get a new cd player? thanks,
d-rock
I believe that u get what u pay for
with that in mind the thunder forms are fairly expensive and they
do sound pretty good 2 me--You arent going to get huge rumbling
bass--but a good sound quality--also you are getting a space saving unit--pretty neat
if u dont mind me asking--what is the price for what ur looking at?
well, if the quality of the sub with the amp it comes with is pretty good, i'd pay for whatever it costs brand new or used, but if its recommended that i use a diff amp and/or sub, i'd have to decide on a price.
i would have to say go JL audio. those subs are the best. they also make an enclosure like the MTX or you can also look on subbox.net. they got alot of stuff there to. as for an amp would have to say go woth rockford fostgate or JL. if you got a new cd player you would not have to run new wires for your speakers although you may have to by-pass the factory amp.
choosing 1 brand over another is personal preference
any "name brand" item you get will perform reasonably well
I do believe mtx\jl audio\kicker\alpine\premier
to name a few-are all good quality and in about the same class and price range of one another
any way you are obviously interested in the mtx thunderform
and my 2 cents is that Ive installed a couple of them and heard
a couple of them--They are excellent for confined space areas
and have a good sound reproduction(with a good input signal)
Id say get the 1 with an amp--you will save time and money by not having to add a seperate power amp

The thunder6000 series are decent subs
I had that same mtx box and the 8" sub in my X, but recently switched it out for some kicker solo's
All in all mtx makes a good sub and if your not looking to shake your neighborhood its a good way to go
personaly i've heard both the 6000 series unamped thunderforms and the ones with the amp.... > I < perfer the 6000's with a seperate amp, mostly because the seperate amp has the possibility of give a better signal to the sub (mostly more power) but if you want the cleanest install possible do the amped version...
if you do get the seperate amp you can put it under the front seat and never know its there either. but do check out the jl one as well and get an idea for which company's over all sound you like better and then go from there
..........................basically i would suggest going with the seperate amp
i have the JL audio with 2, 8's under my abck seat powered but a fosgate 150s amp. i have had alot of compliments on them. everyone says they sound like 10's.
