How much paint do I need??

Anybody who painted their entire truck body--I'm some day going to be doing my 51 F1, all in pieces, inside cab, etc, basically everything. How many gallons or quarts will this take, not including the frame or underside--just all the visible body parts? I'm thinking now just in terms of an acrylic enamel, but also if anybody did a basecoat/clearcoat job also how much did you use?

I just painted the 84 F150 and needed almost a gallon 2 inches left in US gallon Container. I was told it's cheaper to buy the gallon anyway.

my 79 took 7/8 of the gallon, but if i was doing interior, and wanted enough in the case of having to do detail n spot repair in the case of a fluke or had to repaint a fender down the road i would try to get a extra half gallon to gallon. u have to figure inside of box and interior i didnt paint on my 79, also color matching is a game you either win or lose. i have seen some real bad color matches, mostly on cars thar were insurance claims and they were only doing half the car, i thought this guy was going to die when i was working in a body shop n he picked up his early seventies bronco that was fully restored otherwise. for some reason the front cip didnt look right in the light. if you turned your head 30 deg and closed one eye n let the otherone tear up it looked alright...lol.

If you buy 3 quarts you pay for a gallon.

Mine took a gallon, but I also bought extra at the same time in case I need it later on.

Heh, not a problem. I just want to be sure I get enough mixed all at once. Guy in high school painted a 46 ch*vy truck, but didn't have enough for the bed. Had more mixed but was obviously a different shade. Don't wanna make that same mistake.

At the price of paint these days invest in a HVLP gun, you will save 40-60% in material.

This is one of the best deals around, the seller has them daily. Ive used that gun for the past few years and am constantly amazed at how good it shoots.
