check engine, the oil canister light and the my one of my oil gauges went to high.
mind you, its 30 degrees outside. so i shut it off and turn it back on and the gauge dropped from high to about midway.
truck starts but does not move or rev when you step on the gas.
NO they don't share the same fluid. They are 2 totally different peices with thier own specified capacities. Is it the transfer case thats out of fluid or the transmission? If it's either one you would see a substancial wet spot on the ground somewhere! Good luck, I hope you get it fixed.
i just check the transmission fluid and it out.........nothing!
what ever happend to low warning light coming on?
also, would this cause the vehicle to go into "limp home mode", 5-7 mph and stepping on the gas doesnt do anything more than 5 - 7 mph.
Yes. If you are lucky you will only have to add fluid. IF you drove it too hard or too long with low fluid, you may have a major repair bill to look forward to. Have it towed to a shop that will flush, change or clean filter and refill with the Ford spec ATF. Don't drive it any further. You might be able to save it.
Hold the phone. If you were able to drive the truck and the gears shifted at all, then you're definitely not out of tranny fluid. One of the first "things" to go when you get somewhat low on fluid is the shifts. When you said you "checked" the fluid, did you merely pull the dipstick out and look? If so, and if there was no fluid on the dipstick, then you might only be a couple quarts low.....these things hold 14+ quarts total. Chances are you're just very low, like the4x4freek said earlier, if you lost all of your tranny fluid then you'd have something that resembles an oil slick somewhere and surely would have a lot of wetness under the body, on exhaust, etc.
Tsdrallyer made a good suggestion to have the tranny flushed and refilled just in case you burned whatever fluid is left inside.
i checked the dip stick and i didnt ssee anything which states it was low. after 2 quarts it was back to normal. the trany holds about 16 quarts and now i able to drive it.
check engine light is still on.
i notice it was leaking towards the front of the vehicle, drivers side.
could it be that the vents are clogged above the trany and its sucking out the fluid ?
that would explain why my fronts dont lock in 4x4.
Your front differential doesn't have anything to do with your transmission. The front differential holds its own fluid and it is of different type and viscosity. There is a vent for the front differential and one for the transmission and yet another for the transfer case and yet another for the rear differential. None of these components are connected to each other other than means of your drive shafts. Your transfer case is bolted to the rear of your transmission, but it doesn't share the transmission fluid. It has its own capacity just like the transmission has it's own capacity. Your Front differential might not be locking in due to several different problems.
1... you have a blown fuse
2... you have a bad shift actuator motor( this is the motor that bolts to the rear of the transfer case that actually shifts it into 4WD)
3... You could have a broken vaccuum line on the front differential.
4... you could have a bad dash control switch.
Hope this has helped you out, As far as your check engine light... go to Auto Zone and have them put it on the OBDII scanner and tell you what's wrong with it. Or you could simply dissconnect the negative battery terminal for 20 min and reset the computer. If it comes back on then bring it to Auto Zone and find out whats tripping the code. If it doesn't come back on, then you just saved yourself a trip!
the trani leak was fixed yesterday. hose from trani to colling system was loose. they wouldnt touch the 4x4, so its in the shop today.
they hit me up for 456.00 (parts - 185.15 , labor = 260.29) , which includes trani flush , transfer case flush, fuel injector cleaning, oil change (mobil one), replace fuel filter, and throttle body service.
plugs were replaced a few months ago.
now their checking out the 4x4 issue. i told them what the4by4freek mentioned could be wrong. they have been checking out the 4x4 for over 2 hours and cannot figure it out.
looks like its satying over night.
ill let you guys know what they find.
has anyone had an induction cleaning done to their exped?
day 2 and she is still in the shop for the 4x4.
mechanic says the fronts wont lock and he beleives the could be a leak in one of the vacuum hoses. he manually pushed som pin which locked the front.
i asked him to replace the plastic canister, hoping this would resolve the issue, but he is waiting diagrams of the vacuum system to knock out the possibility of a damaged hose.
xplor.... the vaccuum lines run from the front differential to the fire wall on the passenger side of the truck. They hook up to 2 vaccuum solenoids there. It is a straight shot from the axle to these solenoids. Like hkiefus said... don't let them sell you a bunch of useless service! They are making a killing off you! Most of what they did you can tackle in a Sat afternoon with simple hand tools and alot less $$$$$$!
got the truck back and the 4x4 isnt fixed.
the mechanic told me he couldnt pull up any diagrams for the vacuum lines. he stated there were about 8 lines going into the firewall. he did open the plastic canister and stated some pin in it was no engaging. so he manual engaged the pin and 4x4 worked.
i told him to replace the canister on the front differental and he said it could be the vacuum lines and didnt want me to spend the money if the canister is good.
damn, 2nd places i took it to in a week and no one can figure it out.
