Slow driver's window

New user and looking forward to all the great info on this site.

I have a 2001 F250 and two problems that I need to address.

1. Has anyone experienced the problem where your seatbelt just intermittently unlatches itself while driving? I usually just latch it and go(same as every other vehicle I own), and never had the problem with any other vehicle.

2. The driver's window on the truck has always moved more slowly than the passenger's. When the weather is cold and I press the switch to lower the driver's window, it moves maybe 2/3 of the way down and then stops. If I help it go down(press on the top of the window as it lowers), it will go all the way down. It always goes all the way up, but it also is slow. Could this be a faulty window motor, or just some bind in it's movement.

Is it difficult, and are any special tools needed to remove the door panel to access the innards?

Any help, advice will be appreciated.

Look in the FAQ forum for the how-to's on door panel removal. It's pretty simple, just take your time and don't be a brute.

1. Get that seatbelt replaced.

2. I have same problem with the window. Roll down the widow all the way. Spray lubricant with the platic tube in place from top to bottom in both tracks. Work the window up and down and it should last 2 weeks or so before you have to respray it. When it warms up here, I'll take the panel off and grease her up good.

MtnBikr,

Could just be that the motor is wearing out on you. But, take the cover off the door. Power the window down until it stops on its own. See if you can see any obstructions in the path of the glass (wires; window channel askew, etc). Usually there's an obstruction of some kind that's causing friction and/or blocking the path of the window.

Are you the original owner of the truck? If so, when did the problem start? Has the truck ever been in an accident? Especially one involving that side of the truck, the front fenders & door jamb area? If not, when did the problem start?

Also, call a stealership and ask their service dept how to remedy?(besides the 'ol, "well, you'll have to make an appointment and let us check it out" routine). Maybe the arms that raise/lower the window get out of adjustment over time? or something needs greasing?

Good luck and please keep us posted,

Thanks to all for the advice.

I will definitely get the seatbelt replaced by the dealer.

I have not been able to find any info on the forums about the door panel removal, but i will keep checking.

To remove door panel:

1. Remove red light cover from lower portion of door.
2. Remove screw that holds the door cover to the door
3. The door cover snaps/locks into place, so start by pulling the
door cover away from the door at one of the corners.
4. Work you way around the door until all snaps are free.
5. You may have to loosen or remove the plastic post cover that
goes about 1/3 the way up the window from the forward top
of the door cover(ie, just inside from the side view mirror). My
interior is grey and the post cover I'm referring to, in my vehicle
anyways, is black.

To reinstall door panel:

Start from the centermost snaps/points of attachment and work outward and then around the edge of the door cover, making sure the top lip is alligned properly first. Give each point of attachment a sharp jolt with the butt of your hand, and in they go!

Good luck! BTW, it takes a little "umpf" to get the snaps undone. Use firm, steady pressure 'til they release; don't just bear down and rip away at it.

my window did the exact same thing, so when I went to have my windows tinted I bought a new motor for that side, the guy doing the tint said the arm inside was slightly bent, he bent it back...has worked great ever since

I think that all the Ford power windows do this. I bought a brand new 97 F150 it did it. I bought a brand new 2000 F250 it did it. My brand new 2003 F250 slows down when it is cold outside too. On the F150 and the 2000 when they got to the point of stopping I took it to the dealer and they lubed the track and problem was solved.

great info

Again, thanks to all who replied, and especially to DS59F100 for info on the correct steps to remove the door panel. Don't want to break anything by doing it wrong.

Hope to remove it this weekend and check things out if the weather cooperates.

Also, ArkansasFordMan, any idea what they lubed the track with on yours?
