I advanced my 6.9 about 4 or 5 degrees. Yes it made a difference but, the 6.9 was set at 1.5 to 4.5 ATDC depending on the cetane value of the fuel you are using, where the 7.3 is 8.5 BTDC from the start.

It depends on where you timing is at now. I checked mine because it always sounded fairly quiet. I then noticed only 1 out of the 3 bolts were even tight on the pump. I went from 0 to 8+ degrees, so there was all kinds of difference. I had to keep lifting my foot on the highway cause I was going about 5-10 mph faster then normal.
