6.9 noise/ need help

I've got a Dealers reman. 6.9 with about 55k on it.(no warranty because it's been in the truck awhile!) The noise is on the right bank, sounds alot like a small exhaust leak but I can't find one. A lifter maybe, are they hydraulic? what does a bad rocker bridge sound like? There is no miss, skip, or stutter in the engine at rpm. The noise sounds like a cross between a small exhaust leak and valve clatter, at about 15-18 hundred it is loudest. Is an injector a possibility? HELP it's driving me nuts

Hi shooter .. the problem could be several things, but try this first to test for a injector problem ... with the engine off, loosen all the lines on top of the injectors and retighten them ... now
with the engine idling and carefully around moving parts, use a wrench to loosen the fuel line on the top of the nozzle. You only want to loosen them slightly to make fuel come out a little. This will "short" out the individual injector. If there is no difference in the sound, retighten it and move on to the next one but take your time to make sure fuel levels have come back to the whole system ... kind of levels out the pressure. Do this to all the injecotrs and pay attention to idle and sound. If you find one that makes no difference, that is probably the cultprit. If you dont find any problems that way, i'd start looking a little deeper into the engine ... valve system etc, by removing the covers. You may be hearing fuel knock too caused by fuel pressure and not too much to do to fix that. Its a diesel thing. Good luck and be careful around moving parts. Keep us posted.

Have you had any other problems out of the dealers Diesel reman? I have one in my truck, 7.3 turbo upgrade, with about 4,000 miles on it. Love it so far, I am impressed.

Very pleased with Dealers(Revista) as they are now called.
You probably ought to call them and get a copy of the build ticket
on your engine,it might be nice to know how many sleeves etc.
I will use them again if the need arises.
Any thoughts on my problem I'm about to go nuts trying to nail this down?

Not off hand, is your power off or any other symptom other than hearing it?

Most any of the things that come to mind would show up in other places such as oil loss, water loss, power loss.

Strange that the problem is at the max torque range but not louder at the higher RPM range.

Is your oil pressure dropping off at the trouble range? The lifters are hydraulic and I have seen hydraulic lifters make more noise at a particular RPM range.

As soon as I saw Dealers I was instantly interested in your problem.
