I failed DEQ twice. the first time was with a bad spark plug. replaced it and got better scores, but still failed. then i thought of the cat converter. i have no clue if i have one. its a 83 f-150 I-6 300. i just bought it two weeks ago. the guy had no clue about engines, so i'm pretty sure everything is stock. so if a cat converter isnt stock on a 83, then what brand and model do you guys suggest. im a 18 year old college boy, so nothing too expensive.
If your vehicle is stock it should have a converter on it, any muffler shop should be able to replace your converter with a universal type that won't cost too much.
If your able to cut and weld you can go to any local part store and buy the universal converter yourself and do the work.
Look for a standard universal converter that is certified for applications up to 5.9L/6000lbs. Don't be fooled into paying more for a "High Flow" unit they are all the same.
befure you go spending money on parts ,you might consider a computer diagnostic at a good tuneop shop, the money you spend will be offset by the parts that you dont buy, good luck, bob
